Services

Ancestral Domain Management Planning.  Partner communities are provided assistance in the formulation of their Ancestral Domain Sustainable Development Protection Plans (ADSDPP) which articulate their own traditional and collective management strategy.  These include activities that enable communities to prepare Community Plans, analyze their resources and identify and detail their development priorities and needs. In order to effectively gather data, PAFID utilizes spatial data analysis through the construction of 3D-models of all the ancestral domains of the partner communities. Through this methodology the communities’ historical resource use patterns are drawn on these models and subsequently digitized into land use maps. In certain areas the geographic data spans hundreds of years.

Research Documentation and Follow-Up of Ancestral Domain Claims.  PAFID provides direct assistance to Indigenous Communities who desire to file a claim over their traditional territories. Services are provided in the following areas: a) Gathering of Evidences and Proofs, b) Preparation of Genealogical Profiles, Documentation, Research and packaging of the “Claim Book”, a complete folder and compilation of all the necessary legal documentation which an applicant community is required to formally submit to the NCIP in order to secure a Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title (CADT).

Capacity Building.  PAFID has developed specialized training modules to address the capacity needs of Indigenous Communities in the area of Organizational Development and Strengthening, Strategic Planning, Basic Project Management. Technical training is also provided to communities to enable them to identify and design and construct Potable Water Systems. For the past 12 years, PAFID has also been conducting training in Mapping Methodologies where basic mapping methodologies and tools are taught side-by-side with state-of-the-art inatrumentation of mapping equipment including both resource garde and high accuracy survey grade GPS.

Participatory Geographic Inofrmation System (GIS).  Community volunteers are trained in basic mapping skill which include traditional survey methodologies, sketch mapping including the use of state-of-the-art equipment such as the use of GPS receivers for boundary surveys. The digital data they generated are compiled into maps that undergo a series of community consultations for validation. The maps produced also effectively communicate the indigenous communities’ traditional resource management arrangements. Since the thematic maps contain accurate spatial information such as area, location, distance, and other geographic features.

Support for Potable Water Systems.  PAFID provides technical services to help communities establish potable water systems. Communities are given help in identifying safe water sources and designing an appropriate system to tap, store and distribute potable water to the recipient community. In the past 25 years, PAFID has successfully constructed more than 75 level one l water systems nationwide where safe water from natural springs  have been tapped and stored  in ferrocement reservoirs and  distributed through communal tapstands.

Technical Assistance for Community based Agro-Forestry.  Most Indigenous Communities are located in upland and hilly areas characterized by marginal lands . thus,  most communities suffer from very low productivity owing to the difficulty in cultivating the terrain. PAFID provides direct technical assistance to communities in developing farm plans for the establishment of Agro-Forestry farm systems within their selected sites in the community. To this end PAFID utilizes the expertise of its personnel who are highly skilled and specialized in upland agricultural systems  and employ both traditional and scientific methods in agricultural propagation.

Survey, Mapping and Delineation of Ancestral Lands and Domains.  One of the most critical element of an ancestral domain claim involves the identification, location and marking of the boundary corners of the extents of a community’s’ ancestral domain. This requires the actual boundary survey and mapping of the extents of the territory and land being claimed.  This highly technical requirement of the claim process is both difficult and expensive making it out of reach to most Indigenous Communities. PAFID provides direct assistance to communities in the survey, delineation and mapping of the extents of their traditional landa and territories. PAFID utilizes both traditional as well as state-of-the-art tools and methodologies such as Global Positioning Systems (GPS)  and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to assist communities in their efforts to secure their ancestral domains.
